Annie
Sparrow, London, 1982
dedication:
Dedicated with affection to my dear neice, Gloria Wilkinson
The blurb on the back: The unforgettable story of the most famous, most lovable orphan of all time. Okay, the way I understand it (and don't bother correcting me if I'm wrong) is that Annie was an American comic strip, then got turned into a Broadway musical by Thomas Meehan, Charles Strouse and Martin Charnin, before being filmed by John Huston in 1982 with a screenplay by Carol Sobieski. Having already passed through so many hands, someone clearly figured they might as well let über-novelizer Leonore Fleischer have a go at it as well. The results are predictably dire. Well, what could anyone do with this disgusting story? ![]() ENTERTAINMENT VALUE: 1/5 HIPNESS QUOTIENT: 1/5 from the maker of... | |||
