H: Autobiography of a Child Prostitute and Heroin Addict Corgi, London, 1981 The blurb on the back: The harrowing tragic exposé of young lives shattered. The most shocking account of young people caught up in the dark world of drug abuse since Go Ask Alice (also available from Corgi Books). The book: Like the subtitle says, the autobiography of a 15-year-old heroin addict, as told to two reporters from Stern magazine. The film: Filmed as Christiane F in 1981 by director Uli Edel, later to give us Last Exit To Brooklyn and Madonna's Body of Evidence. The role: Bowie appears as himself playing a gig in Berlin. Mostly he's quite convincing in the role. The co-stars: Natja Brunckhorst made a fabulous debut in the title role but, despite following it with an appearance in Fassbinder's version of Jean Genet's Querelle, she never really made it big. Most memorable image: The shooting-up sequences - always a gift to a film.

Star rating from the Virgin Film Guide: N/A Trivia: The soundtrack album is one of the best Bowie compilations: no new material but a fine selection of work from Station to Station through to Lodger. low
